Zanzibar House is a private house situated in Matemwe on the north-east coast of Zanzibar.

The house offers hospitality in seven bedrooms located on the upper-floor featuring an outdoor balcony. Five rooms overlook the seaside while the remaining two overlook a palm-grove on the adjacent plot. Rooms are all the same size and furnishing are very similar but we would say that seaview ones are less attractive since the swimming pool is located just below their balcony. Conversely palm-groove bedrooms are offering more privacy.

Albeit it had developed, this stretch of coast managed to maintain a very authentic atmosphere. Likewise much of the east coast it is tidal but tides here are not so pronounced and even at low tide water never retreats completely. A 20 - 60 meters deep lagoon could also be reached walking for about 20 minutes [approx. 450 meters off shore] but we do not recommend going alone because of currents and high waves. During high tide instead most of the beach in front of the house gets submerged but you can still enjoy the private beach of the hotel. Given the presence of sea-urchins it is safer to wear sea-shoes when swimming.

Such as Villa Kiva and unlike Villa Maua, Zi-Villa and Matemwe Beach House, Zanzibar House allows to rent rooms rather than the entire house.

The facility is complemented by the restaurant, the bar, the hammam, the swimming-pool and the little private beach.

The proximity to the coral reef has turned this part of the island into one of the most popular destinations for divers and snorkellers. These activities can be arranged with One Ocean, the diving centre at Matemwe Beach Village.

Zanzibar House provides an average level of servicing and it is suitable to those looking for accommodation in a small and family run business.
