The south-east coast and particularly the beach of Paje is since ever our favourite spot in Zanzibar. It has developped very slowly retaining an undeniably African atmosphere and one can reach every point of the island in no longer than 45 minutes.

It offers broad white-sand beaches fringed by coconut palm-trees and the opportunity of long walks, unexpected variation of colour and a lagoon which keep changing from transparent-white to turquoise, emerald and blue where crossed by channels used by fishermen to go out onto the open sea. Its shallow and calm water are ideal for kids.

At low tide you will have to walk for at least five or ten minutes to get where water reaches your knee but that could be an opportunity to walk toward the reef sighting some starfish and small tropical fish, looking at women harvesting their sea-weed cultivations or to sail out and enjoy some snorkeling.

In recent years it has attracted kite enthusiasts from all over the world, particularly Paje which features no rocks, sea urchins and coral fossils for a good stretch of sea before the reef.
