Selous: since "dry" season here tends anyway to be humid with some scattered rainfalls every two or three days the arrival of light November rains does not influence so much game movements away from permanent water sources at least until the end of January and game viewing should remain on levels only slightly lower than previous months ones. You are likely to sight buffaloes, elephants, hippos and crocodiles, giraffes and zebras, warthogs, wildebeest and antelopes along with hyenas, lions, leopards and wild dogs. Cheetahs and jackals are not so common in Selous so you definitely need to be lucky to encounter them.

Rains in Ruaha follow a different pattern. They usually start by the end of November reaching their peak between January and February. Hence in November vegetation should still be bare with a high concentration of predators and herbivores along the Great Ruaha River and dry beds of seasonal streams. Among predators you can expect to spot lions, leopards, hyenas and jackals. Cheetahs in the open grassland. Game also includes elephants, zebras, buffaloes herds in the forest patches, crocodiles and hippos, many species of antelopes including the sable antelope very hard to be seen in any other national parks of Tanzania. The great variety of birds includes at this time of the year also the eurasian migratory species.
In December however the landscape start to change turning more and more green. Vegetation start to put on new leaves and seasonal rivers start to flow again. Sightings start to decrease but in a way quality compensates quantity since that's the time when mammals have their young. If lucky you might also witness a birth. Sable and roan antelopes will now remain in the highlands which is not accessible due to lack of viable roads.
