Ras Nungwi is located along the north coast of Zanzibar, on the east side of Nungwi.

Thanks to its relatively isolated setting the hotel does not suffer from the excessive tourists turnout that has compromised the coast to the west of Nungwi and the stretch of sea facing the hotel is perhaps the best in the whole area with only a few coral outcrops.

Likewise the rest of the east coast this stretch of coast is also tidal but the sea does not ebb too far away: at low tide one can enjoy beautiful undisturbed walks but at high tide the sea will engulf the shoreline and none should leave without being aware of the tide-chart since swimming back, pushed by the sea against the cliff, can be quite dangerous. There is no real beach here but the hotel has equipped a sort of private beach above the cliff from where some wooden stairs lead down to the sea.

Ras Nungwi offers an average level of servicing and consists of 32 rooms divided into 1 Ocean Suite, 12 Superior Chalets, 4 Superior Deluxe Chalets and 15 Garden Lodges. The Ocean Suite is set apart from the others, it measures about 200 sq. meters and features an outdoors plunge pool, a double bedroom, bathroom, living area and bar on the ground flood. On the first floor there is a seaview terrace equipped with sunbeds and zanzibari sofas shaded by a makuti roof. Close to the sea, above the cliff, there is a small private beach. Chalets differ for their distance from the sea and the superior deluxe are the closest ones [the sea is accessed by wooden stairs descending from the cliff]. Lodges rooms are set back on the plot in a row. All rooms feature outdoors verandah, airconditioning, ceiling fans, hairdryer and safe box.

Il resort is complemented by a large makuti hosting reception, bar and restaurant, the swimming-pool and the seafront bar, the watersports and diving centre, the SPA and the tennis court.

Most of the diving takes place near the island of Mnemba about 1 and a half hour boat ride from Ras Nungwi but there are also some also some closer dive sites such as Leven Bank. The water sports center [Zanzibar watersports] is one of the best on the island and specializes in deep sea fishing in the deep waters of the Pemba channel. Other activies offered include kayaking, snorkeling, wind-surfing, water-skiing and mountain-biking.

Although a bit overpriced, Ras Nungwi is a pleasant facility and remains an interesting alternative in the northern side of the island.
