Crater Forest Tented Lodge is a Dutch-owned permanent tented lodgepractically managed by local Maasai situated on the edge of the Ngorongoro forest with tents raised on wooden stilts overlooking the dense and lush vegetation. If you love outdoors life and the lack of particular comforts does not scare you then you'll find Crater Forest a rather pleasant little place to stay at.

The lodge consists of only 15 tents, all with ensuite and hot shower, a typical african terracotta stove to heat the room in the chilly upland nights and an outdoor veranda overlooking the forest. It also includes the bar and restaurant.

Although the long bumby road to get there, about 15 km from the gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, we think it is worth a stay because of the absolute peace and the good value offered. If you are looking for a higher level of comfort then we would then suggest you Gibb's Farm with its marvellous farm cottages. If you are looking for a more conventional kind of accommodation then we would rather recommend Ngorongoro Farm House.

The lodge offers walks through the coffee plantation as well as walks in the forest accompanied by Maasai guides.
