Momela lakes, Arusha N.P.

A canoe safari in the silent and peaceful environment of the small Momela Lake is one of the most fascinating activities that one can undertake in Arusha National Park. The algae-rich shallow and alkaline waters are ideal habitat for flamingos, pelicans, ducks and gooses as well as many migratory waterfowls. Up to now over 650 species of birds have been registered. Canoeing will also allow you to approach the lake shores without frightening animals hence you might sight closely buffaloes and other herbivores such as kudus, giraffes and waterbucks. On a clear day the horizon opens up to the snowy peak of Mount Kilimanjaro while the opposite side is dominated the massive Mount Meru.

The activity will last for about 2,5 hours from 9.00 to 11.30 or from 14.00 to 16.30. You will paddle yourself while a guide will accompany you in his own canoe.

*** If water is not your element then it is possible to opt for a walking safari, in the national park, accompanied by an armed ranger. This excursion can last from one up to four hours and you can choose among easy or more challenging paths walking uphill and downhill, across stretches of forest and meadows where buffoloes usually graze and nearby some small waterfalls ... a tree that you should not miss is the big ficus.
